Italian Americans in Boston
Since Boston was a major industrial city in the early 1900s, it was a big destination for new Italian immigrants! The first immigrants in Boston came from Genoa, Italy. It was in the north of Italy.
The North End was (and still is!) a meeting place for Italian Americans. Eventually, immigrants from all over Italy started coming to settle in Boston. The North End was where Italian immigrants started celebrating Saint Anthony's Feast, the "Feast of all Feasts" (which originated in Naples, Italy) as new immigrants. Remember the "festas" we heard about before? This is one of the biggest religious festivals celebrated in America!
